Trail 1: Vadiello

The trail starts from the parking area of Vadiello Reservoir. It crosses a small tunnel of rock which serves as a shelter for bats. Cross the dam and continue along a forest track, from where you can take in the beautiful landscape (Mallos de Vadiello and Pico Borón) before continuing towards San Cosme, passing by the shrines of Santa Cruz, San Cosme and San Damian. The trail continues along a path through a kermes oak forest and, after a stretch of track, another path climbs a short but steep slope until it reaches a plain known as “El Bosque Encantado” (The Enchanted Forest), due to the strange shapes of the trees in this peculiar holm oak forest. After going through it, you will reach the foot of the rock known as Huevo de San Cosme (Egg of San Cosme).

During the spring months, flowers provide a burst of colour in this landscape dominated by the greys and of its mallos. Among the wide variety of flowers that you can find on the way, the ones worth pointing out are: Dactylorhiza elata, Digitalis lutea, Nigella damascena, Narcissus assoanus, Ophrys scolopax, Paronychia capitata, Solanum nigrum, Trifolium campestre, Veronica polita, Vicia peregrina, etc.

A unique environment dominated by the reservoir and surrounded by conglomerate formations—great isolated vertical walls known as Mallos de Ligüerri—, near Barranco de Isarre, where the shrine of San Chinés can be found. Another of Vadiello's stone symbols is "Huevo de San Cosme", where a large number of griffon vultures can be seen. And lastly, one of the most peculiar holm oak forests present in Aragon, “El Bosque Encantado” (The Enchanted Forest), which clearly shows how the specimens in it have adapted to the adverse climate (cold and wind) that has shaped them.
