Legend says that this amazing medieval village at the foot of the protected mountain range Sierra de Santo Domingo was an important fortress at the border with the Muslims in the Middle Ages. Many Jews lived in Biel during this period and we can still see their trace in the Jewish quarter of the town centre. So did significant kings, such as Alfonso I the Battler, who spent part of his childhood here. Besides the historical background, Biel is also unique in its surrounding nature and geological formations, such as the “lezas”. Let’s take a look.

The unmarked trail starts in Biel, next to the fountain, and heads to the lavoir where it follows the track to Pozo Tronco (starting point of route 3: Route of the Ravines) for 3 kilometres, passing by Abejar and then crossing the Arba river in Biel to follow the Senda de la Mina (mine path) until Collada Iruela. From the pass, the route follows a trail along the ridge of Las Lezas to later descend to the Pozo Tronco track and return back to Biel via the same trail followed at the beginning.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND VISITING LA HUERTA DE LA ARMONIA, run by our partner Álvaro from Apartamentos Las Lezas. Water and provisioning only in Biel. Carry enough water and food for the entire route.
