Legend says that the people of Longás depended on livestock and the forest to live, and that they jealously kept the secret of how to extract black gold from pine known as “pez” (tar). The people in Longás are called “peceros” (tar makers) and you can still learn today how they produced black gold. You can also visit the Ethnographic Museum to discover more secrets of Longás.

The unmarked trail starts at the entrance to the village and goes up a short track connecting with an old path that takes you up to the Plana de Lucientes under the protected mountain range Sierra de Santo Domingo. After going past a shelter and crossing a fence, follow down a trail connecting with another trail in the woods. Continue until you reach a ravine and then cross the walkway known as Paso de las Arrogatas. The trail leaves the woods and continues across a scrubland until it reaches the old power station. From there it goes to Longás, visiting the “pez” interpretation centre on the way.
