GUARA IS A WILD AND ROCKY MOUNTAIN RANGE FULL OF HIDDEN GEMS WHERE TIME STANDS STILL. OUR FIRST STAGE CLIMBS UP TO THE SIERRA DE SEVIL AND THEN GOES DEEP INTO FORGOTTEN VALLEYS CONNECTED BY ANCESTRAL PATHS.
The challenge begins with one of the longest stages, with endless singletracks and significant height difference. Departing from the medieval village of Alquézar we’ll climb up by an unpaved road to the Sierra de Sevil, where the ancient Mesón de Sevil lies. Ot the top there are amazing views of the Pyrenees and Balced canyon.
The route goes on towards Tozal del Asba, from where an easy singletrack descends by a pine forest to Sarsa de Surta. After a short local road, the track goes up to Pueyo de Morcat by a long singletrack, probably with some hike-a-bike section. On its way the route crosses Vero River several times. During rainy seasons (spring/autumn) is recommended to take variant 1 climbing by paved road to Las Bellostas and then going by a dirt road to Casas de Montalbán, where we return to the base track. If your choice is to climb up to Pueyo de Morcat there will be a huge reward: a fast and enjoyable downhill singletrack to Casas de Montalbán.
From there a long uphill section to Collado del Rayo is waiting for us. Now we’re going deep into a deserted but surprisingly beautiful territory. First we must descend to the uninhabited village of Alastrué to connect with a net of ancestral paths heading towards the small uninhabited village of Miz. Later, we’ll arrive to Bara passing by millenarian oak forests and sandstone slabs. The descent to Bara is absolutely spectacular. Welcome to Nocito Valley.
From Bara, a paved road climbs to Used, where the superb GR1 trail heads towards Bentué de Nocito. The singletracks here together with Tozal de Guara silhouette create a magical atmosphere. The last section can be done by a technical rocky singletrack or a comfortable paved road to Nocito. The first stage of the challenge has been finished with great effort and lots of unforgettable memories. Welcome to Guara.
