The tour of Mascún Canyon is one of the best hiking routes of Prepyr365 and the entire Sierra de Guara. For that reason, we’ll get again into this impressive canyon, this time to visit the amazing La Costera’s landscape and the spectacular and vertical trails of Mascún and Raisén leading to the magical waterfall Saltador de las Lañas, the starting point for the canyoning descent.
We depart from Rodellar and descend heading towards the bottom of Mascún Canyon. After passing the hollow named El Delfín and the source of water called La Surgencia, we will continue by the riverside towards La Costera. The ascent to Otín has incredible views of the canyon and the rocky needles known as Ciudadela and Cuca Bellosta. After visiting the ancient Otín village, another path will lead us to the magnificent trails of Mascún and Raisén. The walk along these vertical trails is, undoubtedly, a first-rate hiking experience.
Then, we’ll get to Saltador de las Lañas waterfall and ascend to the left bank of the ravine where we’ll enjoy wonderful panoramic views before getting to the uninhabited village of Cheto, from where we descend to Rodellar by a beautiful stony lane.
The trail has some vertical sections with huge drops. Please, take care when walking Faja de Mascún and Raisén. They’re not recommended for people suffering from dizziness. In Faja Raisén, there are some short but easy climbs where you might use your hands. The way back from Saltador de las Lañas has steep sections and is not well marked. GPS is recommended.
There are no fountains on the way, just an intermittent one in Otín. You must carry enough water and food.
There are few shades. Avoid the central hours of the day during summer months. We must cross Mascún River several times. Don’t start the route in case of flood.
