Today we get into Sierra de Santo Domingo, a magical natural environment where fabulous oak and beech forests and peculiar conglomerate and limestone formations will offer a great experience as well as the chance of getting wonderful pictures. This mountain range is a privileged natural area. Enjoy it!
The stage starts in the medieval village of Luesia. After a walk through the valley we’ll get into some oak and beech forests before arriving to L'Artica Refuge, where we’ll start the ascent by a beautiful oak forest to the emblematic summit of Cabo Val. We’ll surely stop to admire its fantastic panoramic view of the Pyrenees. From the summit, we’ll descend to the edge of a conglomerate cliff walking along a narrow path carved into the rock.
The trail continues through a mixed forest area leading to the col of Erica La Fosa, where its connects with GR-1 trail. Afterwards, we keep descending through a wonderful pine forest to Embite Ravine also called De la Carbonera Ravine, which we cross to connect with a gravel road that running parallel to the ravine will take us to the medieval village of Biel.
The stage is not extremely demanding. However, we’ll walk along different trails so there is not a common signaling on the way. Good GPS management is recommended to follow the right track.
On the way, there is only one source of water called De la Artica Source. Don’t forget to take with you enough food and water.
Mal Paso section is an aerial one but with no danger if the route is properly followed. At the end of GR-1 section heading towards Biel, you must cross Embite ravine. In autumn and spring seasons you might have to take out your shoes when crossing the river course.
