Today we’ll get deep into Sierra de Santo Domingo. We can choose between either going to Biel –short stage- or heading towards Luesia walking the great trails of this wonderful area. We will leave Villalangua going back to De los Juanes camp above the uninhabited village of Salinas. At this point we will climb up to Villalangua col and will descend until we reach he sign of Corral de Grasa. We’ll follow it and will cross a fence besides an old building that is being restored. We’ll go down and turn right to Corral de Farrihuelo. From the shelter, we’ll follow the path until we find a crossroads where we must turn right. Then we have to decide either if we head towards Biel, going straight to Corral de Menterola or we go to Luesia turning right to Fuente de la Mata. If we go to Luesia, after passing by Garrén col, we should go straight to Tablado col. We’ll go down on a wide path before turning right to Fayanás Col. From Fayanás, we’ll turn right heading towards Corral de Mariguarrilla, where horses can drink. We’ll go straight and in Barrera de Anica we’ll turn left to take a trail leading to Corral de Rebusto, from where we’ll go down to an unpaved road que we must cross to take another road to Larraga col. There we will continue along the GR trail - on the left - to reach Erica la Fosa pass. We will continue straight ahead and later will take a path to the right leading to one of the most spectacular spots of this stage: Mal Paso. A path carved in the conglomerate rock. Later we’ll reach a crossroads on the ridge where we will take the path on the right going into the woods to Punta Cabo Val, from where we will turn right connecting first with a wide road and later a firebreak through which we descend to a plain. We will turn to take the track leading to the bottom of the valley where Refugio de L’Artica is located in a beautiful meadow surrounded by beech woods. Then we’ll go southeast being able to ride on the meadows until we reach the the soccer pitch in Luesia. In Casa Balana we will find food & accommodation as well as place to host our horses.
Refreshment:
You'll find water in Refugio de Farrihuelo. It might be possible to find water in some ravines during spring and early summer seasons.
On the way down to Biel we can find water when crossing Arba ravine.
On the way to Luesia we will find water in Corral de Mariguarrilla and Refugio de la Artica as well as in the surroundings of Luesia.
There is no way to get food & drinks on the way. You can rest in Farrihuelo as well as use its facilities. Remember to close the doors and take the trash you've generated during your stay.
